Letter to Editor of the Sydney Morning Herald
Your editorial on the release of the Barangaroo Project Development Agreement highlights the important provisions of the Government Information (Public Access) Act and the Barangaroo Delivery Authority has placed the Agreement on its website.
We are very proud of the benefits of this Agreement which we have negotiated with Lend Lease on behalf of the people and State of NSW.
Under the Act, the Authority was required to release the Agreement within 60 days of it becoming unconditional and that is what we did.
The Act recognises that exemptions are permitted for commercial in confidence reasons including any matter that would place the contractor at a substantial commercial disadvantage in relation to other contractors or potential contractors.
The Authority undertook a robust review of the exemptions sought by Lend Lease. During the review period, there were indeed a significant number of exemptions sought which the Authority did not accept and released.
The Authority is more than satisfied that we have met, both in spirit and intent, our obligations under the Act and are more than happy for our response to be scrutinised at any level.
Mike Collins
Chairman

Army pilots conduct helicopter training over Sydney
Up to four Black Hawk helicopters will conduct flights over Sydney this week as part of a training exercise. The exercise will involve some low-altitude flying to ensure junior pilots and aircrew are well trained in operating over urban areas.
Tomorrow the Black Hawks will conduct multiple ‘approach and hover’ manoeuvres over the Cruise Liner, Pacific Jewel, Wharf 5 Barangaroo, Darling Harbour from approximately 10:15am – 11:15am. Times and locations of flights are approximations only and are subject to change at short notice.
Executive Officer of the 6th Aviation Regiment, Major Paul Lewis said the training had been designed to have as little impact on residents as possible but some noise would be noticeable.
“The Army thanks the public for their patience and cooperation while this necessary and essential training is undertaken,” said Major Lewis. |

Demolition works at Barangaroo
Lend Lease will undertake demolition works on site at Barangaroo South over the next few weeks. This work includes the demolition and removal of all existing buildings on site (including the Wharf 8 building) and diversion of redundant on site services (such as water and power). These works will continue for a period of approximately 3 months and will require temporary diversion of the foreshore walk for safety reasons over the next four weeks. In addition, Lend Lease’s site investigation works have identified that there is some asbestos present within the existing buildings that are to be demolished. This is not unusual for buildings of this age, but it will be necessary to undertake asbestos removal works from the Barangaroo South site, commencing Monday 16 August for a period of 2 weeks. Diversions will be clearly signposted when they are in place. These demolition works will be carried out during the following hours - 7 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday; and 8 am to 1 pm on Saturdays. If you have any enquiries, please contact the Lend Lease Community Enquiry Line 1300 039 733 or via email at barangaroosouth@lendlease.com.au. |

Foreshore walk remains open with protection diversions
A series of temporary diversions have been developed to protect users of the Barangaroo Foreshore Walk and at the same time maximise public access to the harbourfront during necessary construction works.
The current diversions are expected to be in place for the next month to allow a range of works by Lend Lease to occur on Barangaroo South. These include continuing geotechnical investigations requiring drilling on site as well as the demolition of the former passenger cruise terminal at Darling Harbour 8. Signage has been placed on site which clearly show the temporary routes established to protect users of the foreshore walk.
The map below also shows the access points to the Barangaroo Foreshore as well as the route of the diverted foreshore walk in red.

Barangaroo Headland Park Design Open Day
In February 2009 the winning design team Johnson Pilton Walker, in association with Peter Walker and Partners Landscape Architecture, were announced to work with the Barangaroo Delivery Authority to design the new Headland Park and other public spaces. This highly regarded team is designing key open space features for the waterfront commercial, residential and leisure precinct, including the creation of the harbourside park.
On Saturday 10 July, the Barangaroo Delivery Authority hosted a Headland Park Design Open Day on site, providing an opportunity to hear from International landscape architect, Peter Walker, about plans for the Headland Park and to listen to the community’s ideas for Sydney’s next generation waterfront park. Barangaroo Community Forums
More than 400 hundred people attended the month-long program of community forums aimed at providing direct public feedback into the ongoing design process for Barangaroo.
The objective of these forums was to encourage people from all over Sydney to contribute their feedback for weaving Barangaroo into the existing fabric of Sydney.
Over a month we conducted a series of community events across all parts of Sydney, including the CBD, Parramatta and Caringbah.
As a result, hundreds of ideas, suggestions and comments have been fed directly into the design process for the three key areas of Barangaroo – the Headland Park, Barangaroo Central and Barangaroo South (the section to be developed by Lend Lease).
Download a summary of the outcomes from the series of workshops. (link to pdf of report)
The Sydney community are encouraged to continue to share their ideas and input by visiting the online forum at www.barangarooforum.com.au
