First engineered timber office building to open at Barangaroo

20 Jul 2016

An innovative and sustainably constructed timber building, International House Sydney, is being built at Barangaroo.

The six-storey International House Sydney, due for completion in 2017, will be Australia’s first commercial office building made of timber.

Continuing the pursuit of Barangaroo’s goal to be the first precinct of its size in the world to be climate positive, International House Sydney employs innovative and sustainable building techniques.

Designed by Alec Tzannes of Tzannes Associates, the office building will be constructed from Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) and glue laminated timber (Glulam.)

Constructed with wood, CLT has a lower carbon footprint than other building materials, the production process produces zero waste, and timbers are sourced from certified sustainably managed forests.

Much of the building can be prefabricated and assembled on site. It will house offices above and retail below
