Headland Park site establishment

3 March 2011

Construction of Sydney's new spectacular Headland Park at Barangaroo is about to start following the appointment of Laing O'Rourke to undertake early works on the site.

Work will be undertaken in accordance with the Barangaroo Headland Park early works project approval issued in November 2010 by the NSW Department of Planning.

As you are aware from our previous notifications, sewer relocation and cliff stabilisation works commenced at the northern end of Barangaroo and Hickson Road in November 2010 and were completed in February 2011.

The Headland Park is progressing the next phase of early works activities.  The Barangaroo Delivery Authority has awarded the early works contract to Laing O'Rourke, which has extensive experience in complex civil infrastructure and building projects, following an open tender process.

These works will commence in March and firstly it will include the erection of a perimeter fence, establishment of site offices and environmental controls.  In addition the light poles will be pulled down, some of the pavement will be removed, construction of retaining walls in preparation for receipt of fill and a redirection of Sydney Water's sewer main under Hickson Road to an existing pumping station on the southern end of the site.

The hours of work will be 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 3pm on Saturdays.  Noise levels are not expected to exceed the allowable levels.
