Site investigations and sewer works

15 November 2010

The Authority has received planning approval from the NSW Minister for Planning for early works on the Headland Park.  The following work will occur from 17 November 2010 and continue through until February:

  • Site investigations and geotechnical testing at the northern end of Barangaroo and at Hickson Road (between Windmill Street and Jenkins Street) - 17 November to December
  • Sewer works at the northern end of Barangaroo and along Hickson Road (between Argyle Place and Jenkins Street) - December to February (work will not occur on Sundays and public holidays).

Site investigations and geotechnical testing

This work involves drilling 31 boreholes on the northern end of the site, 18 boreholes on Hickson Road and the material extracted will be sampled and tested.  Eighteen test pits will also be excavated with soil removed from the test pits temporarily stockpiled next to the pit.  These works are in preparation for sewer works to occur on site and on Hickson Road.

The hours of work will be 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 3pm on Saturdays.  The equipment on site will include two drilling rigs and an excavator.

Sewer works

This work involves the construction of a temporary sewerage bypass, diversion of existing sewerage lines and diversion of existing stormwater services.  The hours of work will be 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 3pm on Saturdays.  The equipment on site will include an excavator with rock breaker.

The main works application for the Headland Park, including the detailed plans for the park and the Northern Cove, is currently on public exhibition at the Department of Planning and City of Sydney or online at majorprojects.planning.nsw.gov.au.
