Site investigations and sewer works

The Authority has received planning approval
from the NSW Minister for Planning for early works on the Headland
Park. The following work will occur from 17 November
2010 and continue through until February:
- Site investigations and geotechnical testing at the northern
end of Barangaroo and at Hickson Road (between Windmill Street and
Jenkins Street) - 17 November to December
- Sewer works at the northern end of Barangaroo and along Hickson
Road (between Argyle Place and Jenkins Street) - December to
February (work will not occur on Sundays and public holidays).
Site investigations and geotechnical
testing
This work involves drilling 31 boreholes on the
northern end of the site, 18 boreholes on Hickson Road and the
material extracted will be sampled and tested. Eighteen test
pits will also be excavated with soil removed from the test pits
temporarily stockpiled next to the pit. These works are in
preparation for sewer works to occur on site and on Hickson
Road.
The hours of work will be 7am to 6pm Monday to
Friday and 8am to 3pm on Saturdays. The equipment on site
will include two drilling rigs and an excavator.
Sewer works
This work involves the construction of a
temporary sewerage bypass, diversion of existing sewerage lines and
diversion of existing stormwater services. The hours of work
will be 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 3pm on
Saturdays. The equipment on site will include an excavator
with rock breaker.
The main works application for the Headland
Park, including the detailed plans for the park and the Northern
Cove, is currently on public exhibition at the Department of
Planning and City of Sydney or online at majorprojects.planning.nsw.gov.au.
