Barangaroo strives to be accessible to all visitors, of all ages, including those with additional mobility requirements. While much of Barangaroo is open for business, there are still some construction zones within the precinct and disruption along Hickson Road due to remediation works.

Visiting Barangaroo Reserve
There are entrances from Towns Place, Hickson Road, Munn Street Reserve and Merriman Street. Wulugul Walk, which follows the 1836 foreshore, is relatively level and, like all dedicated pedestrian pathways in the Reserve is 3.8m wide. At the northern end, Wulugul Walk provides stair-free access to the Waranara Terrace and the Stargazer Lawn. Lifts connect all levels at Nawi Cove, Waranara Terrace and Stargazer Lawn to the carpark.
Barangaroo Reserve has been extensively planted with native trees and shrubs, but until these reach maturity, there is little natural shade. Drinking fountains are provided, but it is a good idea to bring bottled water. Seating options along the walkways are custom-designed benches and the large sandstone blocks that give the park much of its character.
Assistance animals are welcome in all parts of Barangaroo.
Changes to access at the Cutaway (under Barangaroo Reserve)
Accessible and alternate routes: Please add extra time to your journey using the map with accessible and alternative routes.
Accessible buggy service: A buggy service is available to help those with accessibility needs travelling to/from Cutaway entrance (Ground level) to/from Stargazer Lawn (Level 2). The buggy can fit up to 3 - 5 people and one wheelchair/pram.
Buggy times: From 23 November 2024 to 28 February 2025, the buggy will operate daily from 7am – 6pm. To request a pickup, call 0498 033 066. During busy times, please allow up to 15 minutes for the buggy to arrive.
Buggy service FAQs
During the planning phase of the Cutaway fit-out works, retaining public access to the lift at the Cutaway entrance (Ground level) was carefully considered. However, due to high-risk construction activities, including the operation of mobile plant, cranes and structural works occurring at and around the lift area the decision was made to close access to the lift to ensure public safety. The fit-out works are expected to be complete by late 2025.
The lift is still accessible at all basement levels within the Barangaroo Reserve car park and Levels 1 and 2 but will not stop at the Cutaway entrance (Ground level). Stairs around Barangaroo Reserve can still be used.
Alternative Disability Discrimination Act-compliant routes are available nearby, including accessible footpaths within the Reserve and a lift in Barangaroo South. The nearby external stairs will also remain accessible during construction.
For ease of navigation, we have developed a map displaying accessible routes throughout the precinct. This map is displayed within Barangaroo and online. To further support visitors during the ground lift closure, we have initiated a buggy service.
In response to your recent feedback on our buggy service, we are introducing a trial on-demand buggy service. This trial service, in anticipation of busy summer foot traffic, will run from 23 November 2024 to the end of February 2025, with extended operating hours from 7am to 6pm.
If you need the buggy, call 0498 033 066, and a ranger will drive you to/from the Cutaway entrance (ground level) and Stargazer Lawn (Level 2). Please note that the buggy will not make other stops and that during busy periods, the wait time for the buggy may be up to 15 minutes.
Yes, the buggy is fully accessible and accommodates both prams and wheelchairs.

Accessing Barangaroo Reserve
There are two ambulant and one accessible cubicles located near the Towns Place entrance.
Wynyard and Circular Quay are both approximately 1.1km. Travel via Wynyard is a little quicker, and involves using Wynyard Walk tunnel. The tunnel exits at Napoleon Plaza, which connects to the lift at Sussex Street Bridge. You can reach Hickson Road via the lift.
Tactile Ground Surface Indicators and curb ramps are consistent from both locations. Shore lining from Circular Quay is more consistent than from Wynyard for white cane users.
The closest bus stops are in Hickson Road, close to Towns Place, and are serviced by routes 324 and 325, which depart from Town Hall; and route 311, which runs between Central Station and Argyle Street.
Wheelchair users accessing the park from the Towns Place entrance should be aware there is a 30m-long brick/cobbled pathway to navigate before the surface becomes completely smooth.
There are two accessible street parking bays on Towns Place, close to the entry to the carpark.
Wilson operate a car park beneath the Reserve, accessed via Towns Place. It provides eight accessible parking spaces on level B1. Please see Car Park website here for more details.
The Hickson Road entrance to Barangaroo Reserve is recommended if arriving by taxi or being dropped off/picked up by private vehicle.

Visiting The Retail And Dining Precinct
The best point of entry to Barangaroo’s retail and dining precinct for those with accessibility requirements is from Kent Street, via the stairs or lift to Napoleon Plaza and across the Sussex Street Bridge.
There are additional entry points to Barangaroo at the intersection of Hickson Road and Napoleon Street, travelling at grade to Watermans Quay, or via ramp to Shipwrights Walk. Another entry point can be found on Sussex Street via a ramp to Exchange Place. At-grade entry points to Barangaroo can also be found from King Street Wharf and Darling Harbour.
Tactile indicators are located at stairs, escalators, kerb ramps and other possible hazards within this part of the precinct.
All of the restaurants, cafes and shops in Barangaroo have on-grade access. Please call the restaurant ahead of time with any particular requirements or if you have questions.

Accessible public toilets are located on the eastern side of Barangaroo Avenue between Exchange Place and Mercantile Walk. Additional accessible toilets are available between the restaurants along Wulugul Walk.
The restaurant and retail precinct is best accessed from Wynyard Station via the Wynyard Walk Tunnel. The tunnel exits at Napoleon Plaza, which connects to the Sussex Street Bridge, taking visitors to the main entry.
Those with vision impairment crossing Napoleon Plaza should be aware of a large column that is currently not marked with tactile indicators. All changes of level along the route from Wynyard Station to Barangaroo are accessible by lift and escalators.
The 324 and 325 bus routes travel along Sussex Street and Hickson Road, with a short journey to Barangaroo entry points.
Those travelling to and from Barangaroo by bus should note that due to construction, footpath conditions along Sussex Street and Hickson Road are subject to change. For up-to-date information call 1300 966 480.
From the bus station in Carrington Street at Wynyard, the best route to Barangaroo’s southern precinct is along the southern side of Margaret Street, crossing Clarence and Kent Streets. There is stair and lift access to Napoleon Plaza and onwards across the Sussex Street Bridge, where escalators and a lift provide access to Barangaroo.
If you use a wheelchair or other mobility device, the gradients from Carrington Street along Margaret Street are very steep and not advisable.

Eight accessible parking spaces are provided at Car Park beneath Barangaroo Reserve. This carpark is approximately 800 metres from the entry to Barangaroo’s southern precinct.
From the car park travel south along Hickson Rd towards Barangaroo. A lift is located on the corner of Hickson Road and Napoleon Street. Please see Car Park website here for more details.
A common sense approach is recommended in selecting a safe location to drop off or pick up. As conditions in the CBD change regularly, always select a safe location. The nearest taxi rank is in Shelley Street.
The Barangaroo Wharf opened on 26 June 2016. The F3 and F4 services stop here and you alight directly on to Wulugul Walk. It is a 10-15 minute walk north to Barangaroo Reserve. Find ferry information here.
