Marrinawi Cove upgrades to deliver more space for visitors

The project will convert part of the Moore's Wharf car park into approximately 380 square metres of additional public open space, creating more room for people to relax, picnic and enjoy Sydney Harbour. The upgrades will include new lawn areas, additional seating, shade and landscaping, as well as dedicated changing facilities for swimmers and visitors. 

The enhancements respond to strong community use of Marrinawi Cove and feedback seeking more space and improved amenities. Since opening for swimming in 2023, the cove has become a popular destination for local residents, workers and visitors, creating Sydney's first new harbour swimming spot in decades. 

Construction will begin in September 2026, with the upgraded facilities planned to open this summer. The works will ensure more people can enjoy the waterfront and make the most of the unique harbour swimming experience at Barangaroo.

What to expect during construction

During construction, Marrinawi Cove is expected to remain open where safe and practical, with only the areas immediately under construction closed. 

Visitors may notice temporary fencing, signage, localised changes to access and construction activity around the eastern side of the cove.

The existing toilet block is planned to remain available where possible, however temporary amenities will be provided if short closures are required while works are carried out.

Visitors may notice some temporary disruptions while works are underway, including:

• changes to access around the eastern side of the cove 
• temporary fencing and construction signage
• intermittent noise 
• deliveries and vehicle movements 
• temporary changes to pedestrian routes where required for safety.
