Discover Barangaroo’s new free outdoor cinema in the stunning Barangaroo Reserve.

This spring, you're invited to sit beneath the stars at Stargazer Cinema - Yellamundie Ngurang, and be transported by the power of First Nations storytelling. Yellamundie Ngurang means Storyteller Place in local Dhurang language.

Stargazer Cinema brings the stories of emerging First Nations filmmakers from Australia, and around the world to Barangaroo Reserve for an eight-week outdoor cinema series.

From moving dramas to bold contemporary stories, each film reflects the richness, resilience, and creativity of First Nations culture. With the stars overhead and Sydney Harbour as the backdrop, it’s a cinematic experience like no other.

Stargazer Cinema is presented by Winda Film Festival. 

Winda was set up by a collective of Indigenous filmmakers who strive to create, foster and support opportunities for Indigenous voices to empower, unify, inspire and entertain, through social, economic, innovation and self-sufficiency programs for the advancement of Aboriginal cultures, and stories in digital landscapes.

Established in 2016, Winda Film Festival celebrates emerging and established Indigenous filmmakers from across Australia and around the world.

BATI tells the story of a humble security guard who pursues his dream of becoming a professional boxer to support his struggling family. Snapshots of Fijian life – village visits, city workdays in Suva, singing, family celebrations, and community life – are interwoven with moments of hardship, perseverance, and the physical and emotional grind of preparing for the Bati Boxing Tournament. Set to a soundtrack featuring beloved Fijian artists such as InsideOut, Sailasa Tora, Matanibola, and the Viwalu Family Gospel, BATI carries a distinctly Fijian spirit. It’s a story of determination and heart that stays with you long after the final bell.

Sweet Summer Pow Wow
A young Indigenous couple get a break from their troubled lives when they find each other through a summer of love on the Pow-Wow circuit. The summer Pow-wow circuit in British Columbia is spread out throughout the province, held in a different location every weekend. Thousands of singers, dancers, drummers, and vendors congregate every weekend to celebrate their culture, visit with relations, meet new friends, and especially, to fall in love. Or as it is known in Indian country- “snagging”.

Yes! We love dogs and we know you do to. We just ask that all pooches are on a leash and remain under your control. Please be considerate of those guests that may not love dogs as much.

Yes! Stargazer Cinema is located in Barangaroo Reserve which is fully accessible via a flat pathway along Wulugul Walk. 

Pop-up or external furniture, glass and BYO alcohol are not permitted on site.

All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Each movie screening will vary, please check the website for details prior attending. Screenings will range from G up to MA15+ and viewers discretion is advised.
