Anason is an authentic Turkish restaurant in Barangaroo that brings the meyhane eateries of Istanbul to life right on the water in central Sydney.

Chef and cookbook author Somer Sibrioglu brings the traditional restaurants and bars of Istanbul to Sydney with Anason.

Anason is a meyhane, or house of wine, a traditional Turkish restaurant and bar where the drinks list and buzzing atmosphere are just as important as the delicious food. That’s a perfect description of Anason, where a menu of lovingly prepared dishes are best enjoyed with Turkish wine, bespoke cocktails and a view of the harbour from their al fresco terrace.

Traditional Turkish restaurant in Barangaroo

Chef Somer Sibrioglu won the hearts and bellies of Sydney locals with his Balmain restaurant Efendy - Anason is an extension of that same authentic Turkish cooking. The menu features dishes prepared with traditional Turkish cooking techniques and seasonal Australian produce.

There’s small bites like rock oysters with tarama and beach succulents, cured kingfish with black caviar and brick pastry and chicken heart kebabs with onion and chilli. Then there’s larger dishes perfect for sharing, from charred kingfish collar to brussel sprouts in chilli butter.

Can’t decide? Go for the feast which features a selection of the restaurant’s most popular dishes and finishes with a mindblowing baklava.

A real meyhane experience

A visit to Anason will transport you from Barangaroo to the streets of Istanbul. Soak in the atmosphere with a drink off the extensive menu which features Turkish and international wines, bespoke cocktails with Turkish flavours and a selection of raki - a Turkish grape spirit mixed with aniseed and known as ‘lion’s milk’.
