Join our trained Aboriginal educators on this lunch time tour to discover the stories behind some of Barangaroo's stunning public art. You'll also get the benefits of fresh air, the opportunity explore the stunning Barangaroo precinct and increase your daily step count. Some of the artworks you'll discover on the tour include:
Sabine Hornig's Shadows - Photographic images of indigenous Sydney flora layered on to high curtains of multi-coloured glass walls in the walkways and passages between the towers, providing a visual axis for pedestrians traversing the site.
Aunty Esme Timbery's Shell Wall - The work is a collaboration between Bidjigal/Eora elder and senior artist Esme Timbery and Wiradjuri/Kamilaroi artist Jonathan Jones, and celebrates the important shell-work tradition of La Perouse and the contemporary practice of respected artist Esme Timbery, a fourth-generation shell artist.
Danie Mellor's Remembering - The central themes of Mellor’s Remembering artwork are Country, People and Language depicted by imagery of flora that is indigenous to Country on which Barangaroo is sited, Aboriginal women to depict the powerful Aboriginal woman from who Barangaroo takes its name, and Aboriginal language words.
Alison Page's Wellama - Wellama means ‘to come back’ in the Sydney language. This 10 minute audio visual artwork, by Alison Page and Nik Lachajczak, is a celebration of ritual, ceremony and story practised on Country since time immemorial. It welcomes visitors to Gadigal Country and pays respect to the Traditional Custodians of this land.
